Interesting article by Scott Atran in the Guardian. The only way to 'defeat' the movement will be to present a viable social alternative to ordinary people. One that is not accomplished by the heavy handed importation of capitalistic constructs via military conduits (see Iraq & Afghanistan).
If social anthropologists, artists, and dreamers were involved in creation of a new concept of the world based on environmental sanity, gross national happiness, and economic parity principles, we might have a (long term) chance.
Naturally, winners and losers, as such, would no longer exist. There would no longer be superpowers––capital wealth would be shared, money used as a conduit for peace n' harmony. Realpolitik would deal with the actual issues that matter. And yes, developers such as Trump––and the well-educated, money backed Wall Street deceivers––would not be allowed to pull their "me, me, me" charades. This is what I mean by fabric.
