Yet a college town feel with abundant green and insane sunsets over Valencia, hip coast hugging Boulevard places like Blue Monkey, La Bella Pizza, Bogart's, Casablanca, Chin Loong, Hayaha, Honeycomb (one decayed table of 1940s Central Coast style poker). In the middle an early 20th century American-style Presbyterian university, with college greens. So much potential, so much Fabric waiting to be used.
Speaking of poker, I talked with Arthur Ace Mac, a respected guy about Las Vegas––he is working with high roller Brian Rast (who just won a "make good" $600k prop bet relating to a 48 hour bike ride from Las Vegas to Los Angeles) on the Zen Mentoring thing. I have a slice of interest in poker related to a world record and do love the game.... I know it is not chess and it is not Go, but it has strategic elements that you can descend, several levels. To write about it in the way I envision would be cool. But it requires a quick decision about whether to take a return flight home.
Why is Arisugawa Park 1.13 - "Osmosis" so late? Because, as Hendrix said as he carved feedback into the crowd's collective skull, "I care for your ears." If this novel is a piece of art and there are say 200 serious readers* following my serial effort, I owe it to them to put up only what is most descriptive of my internal landscape. If Herb Caen-like quips are my way of jamming out the butterflies, Ari Park is my attempt at set-piece composition.**
Finally, I met an artist who might just be willing to create original pieces for the novel. This could really work. I have always envisioned a graphic novel of Ari Park. (Dark Knight meets Sam Spade, meets manga)
**Ari Park is also about vindication for disregard from the publishing industry––there is no reason to keep them in the loop, if they are unwilling to take a chance and invest in a hard-bit writer of conviction. I'd rather share the revenue flow with Weebly (and ultimately come back and buy this town, turn this whole platform into sustainability-driven Fabric).
