swimming with effluence

The promised continuation of Boracay Maxed. The white disposal truck in front of my favorite beach bar at Station One, Boracay? Tipsy, Pale Pilsen and flutes  in hand I stop to take a look.

 A huge trench has been dug to the pipe which leads to a stopped-up overflow tank from the CR.* The owner has taken immediate action (digging out sand around the sewage pipe, followed by 2-3 weeks of waiting). Here, at the suitably discreet hour of 3am, the long awaited Champion arrives, dressed in uniform of swim cap and trunks. A big sigh at what lies ahead.

* Comfort room, i.e. toilet.

 Here he handles the lengthy industrial vacuum, Roto Rooter style, trying to unplug the mud-like effluence.

No dice. Unfortunately the shit is not cooperating  unclogging and coming out. Time for Plan B.
Picture
Plan B-Ball. A deflated basketball attached to a plastic surgical tube and hand pump, to be inflated in the stuck pipe at the base of the overflow chamber. But how to get it down there? The young dude is grinning. He knows the answer.

The real reason for a swimming cap and goggles, beyond Boracay beach fashion. Big breath and down the hatch we go!

Glug glug. It takes some time, we all pray. Fortunately, the guy is a pro. I was not able to take a picture of his reemergence, but I did see him emerge unscathed and run into the sea to wash off the effluence. This guy is my new hero... they can't pay him enough!

Meanwhile, a door down at the new Pizza Hut a month later, they have not solved the sewage overflow issue. OMG. Call in the Champion.
